It isn't uncommon for people to take action when a fly is disrupting their conversation. The global issue of fly infestation is so out of hand, an entire industry is dedicated to making products aimed to resolve the problem. For the president however, there is no need for a fly swatter or bug shocking device.
In an interview with CNBC, President Obama outraged animal rights activists when he paused his conversation to end the life of an innocent fly. PETA, a group dedicated to the preservation of bugs we can technically do without, urged the President to be more respectful to the innocent creatures.
PETA has taken into account that the fly's presence was unanticipated. Because the president was unprepared, PETA will not be pressing charges. However, they are sending a fly trap to the Whitehouse that can safely catch the creatures without bringing harm to them. There is no word on whether the President will utilize this tool at his press briefings.
