2020 has shown us the importance of choosing our words wisely. With so much divide and controversy over attempts to erase potentially hurtful concepts in our culture, there are some cases that cannot be disputed. Such is the case for Don Imus who is under fire for insensitive comments he made live on the air.
Don Imus has officially been cancelled by MSNBC after making derogatory racial remarks directed toward the Rutgers women's basketball team. A controversy likely destroying the anchors reputation has clusters of people outraged. Some even suggest this should mean the end of his career in broadcasting.
NBC News President Steve Capus announcement Wednesday that the "comments were deeply hurtful to many, many people" emphasizing that there "should not be any room for this sort of conversation." Imus, who has been with the radio program for almost 36 years and a total of 7 with MSNBC will be under investigation by all parties with his fate hanging in the balance.
CBS Radio said Imus will be suspended for two weeks. His pay will also be withheld as the company assesses the circumstance. Sponsors of the Imus have also removed themselves stating they are waiting to see the outcome.
Donations can be made to the "Help MSNBC Fund" as they search for new sponsorship.
